We have a son that since birth has shown signs of high-manliness. He is content to play with trucks for hours on end, he is happy to listen intently to silly songs that I've made up for him involving tractors, monster trucks and all sorts of heavy equipment, and he is thrilled when one of his parents gives in and buys him a new Tonka book to add to his collection. All in all he is a manly little dude.
Our brother-in-law, Jason, was good enough to call and inform us of an upcoming monster truck show that was to be in town the following weekend. Of course, Sweets took him. And of course they had a grand old time talking to the drivers, purchasing a cool t-shirt and getting it signed by all the drivers, taking pictures of the trucks, watching the monstrous trucks crush several cars at a time and then gawking at the moto-cross guys jumping over those same cars later on. When these two got home, I wanted to know from the little guy's own mouth how the night o' fun went. This was how the dialogue went down:
me: Oh, did you have fun at the monster truck show!?
dudelet: Yeah, I saw monster trucks!
me: How fun! What else did you do?
dudelet: I talked to a girl.
me: Oh really? What was her name?
dudelet: She was a cookie.
me: Oh, was her NAME Cookie?
dudelet: Yeah, she was nice to me.
Ok, so who the crap is this Cookie woman and why is my son so taken by her!? Well, it turns out we have a picture of her because she was like one of the driver's girlfriends or something. She's the scantily clad chick with the hot pink bandanna and sunglasses. Our little guy has been talking about Cookie for some time now and he has his own personal picture of her that a girl from Sweets' work gave to him to give to Treatums when she heard about his great love for her.
I like that even his taste in women is red-neck!
So this little guy just turned 3 on September 17th. We started the morning with some new tractors then off to preschool where it was celebrate celebrate celebrate (they read one of his favorite stories "Don't let the pigeon drive the bus", he shared some John Deere snacks with his friends) and then lunch at Burger King with Mom and Dad (which consisted of his version of a cheeseburger: bun and cheese only!) then cake and ice cream with the family at home and more gifting: garbage trucks, tractors, construction trucks and John Deere puzzles and dominoes. A very fine birthday indeed. We love our little red-neck!
