Here are a few resolutions for this year/life:
- To be spiritually uplifted on a regular basis and to be connected with God so that I may be focused on my eternal goals. Now I realize this an extremely broad goal, but I know that I can achieve this one in a number of ways, like: reading and pondering the scriptures and other uplifting material, meaningful prayer, fasting (this is a big one for me because I've never really purposefully remembered to fast on Fast Sundays), attending the temple every month, doing my geneology (this one will be challenging since there's hardly any work done for my family but I know that it will be amazing), being a better visiting teacher, asking God for opportunities to serve Him through helping His children......I know others will come later and I will add them as I think of them
- Being a better human without being too human: what I mean by that is that I don't want to get caught up in the things of the world as much...obviously I want to travel and experience other places and things like that, but I believe that to be different because I'm also enjoying what God has created for us to enjoy. I don't want to be as materialistic because I know that there are needs elsewhere that must be met; thus I will learn to be charitable.
- I will be a better mother to my children. Obviously this one is an ongoing goal because I am continuously learning how to do things differently and learning that sometimes there is a need to change things. I will be loving and compassionate and respectful and serve them without any expectations in return. I will let them make their own decisions after teaching them the things they need to know, just as our own Heavenly Father has done with us. He has given us countless of resources to come unto Him, but it's always been up to us how we get there.
- I want to immerse myself in the things that I'm doing. For example, recently I took up the piano (Yeah, I've had like 3 lessons so far, but still!) and of course I want to benefit from these lessons as much as I can (I ain't gettin' any younger!) so I will actually PRACTICE!
- I will read to my kids more. I have them read to me plenty, but I would love to read them some really good books (so please, for anybody out there reading this crazy long post, tell me what your favorite books were as a child!)
- I will make out a monthly menu and stick to it! Oh seriously, for the love! My poor family has been waiting all there lives (lives with ME anyway) for this one! I know that this will be awesome all around...we will eat earlier and healthier AND my grocery bill will probably not suffer too much for it! I can't wait to get started!
- I will "EAt to Live"! Not Live to Eat! I have had some digestive issues for a while now and I finally got smart about it and talked to a few people and did some research. It has become obvious to me and my stomach that we were not meant to eat junk food! Duh right? Well, no actually...I mean this didn't really come that apparent to me in my earlier years. (Yo Steph, remember the days of Biggie fries and Crazy Bread and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Funyons and Minute Maid Orange Soda for lunch!?) Yeah, so apparently a lot of fruits and vegetables is the way to go!
- I will be a better sister. Both of my sisters are out of state and I DO talk to them quite frequently, but I just want to stay close to them. I want them both to know that even though we're miles apart they can always count on me to listen and to offer my very wise advice (NOT!) I do love them so much though so I will be better about showing it. And, speaking of sisters, I LOVE my sister-in-laws like they were my sisters...I truly believe we were supposed to be in each others lives. So, a very loving shout out to all of my sistas! (Oh yeah, you too brother!)
- Jewelry-making! Ok, I have this amazingly talented sister-in-law (we'll call her Missizzle) who makes the most beautiful jewelry ever! So many times I'll think "oh...but what necklace could I wear with that?" upon seeing a really cute top or something and then I'll look and look and I can't find anything I like. Thus, jewelry-making has become a must! Plus, I really want a nice quiet hobby that I could enjoy.
- In church on Sunday we were asked to write down a few of our goals for this year and I really liked this one: inviting a different family over for dinner every month...this could be a family in the ward/neighborhood that I don't know very well or a family within my family. Sounds like fun and I DO love to entertain!

Good Luck with your goals. I want to thank you for being such a good friend to me in 2008. And other years but mostly last year for your pudding and the dinner you made my family and for being a great motivator and a non judgmental friend. You are so kind and I am glad your papas made the sacrifices to get you here, where you are supposed to be!
I love hearing great goals! And I was pondering just today something that was on our relief society handout for the new year. Said to base your resolutions on your dreams not your flaws. It sounded good to me and it looks like your doing just that! You will have to tell me more about your eating to live book. Love you, Meg
Hey there, friend! I found you through Holly! What a list of resolutions. You always seem to accomplish your desires so GO FOR IT! Love and miss ya but so good we can keep in touch this way! Mine's private, so if you want, email me. audmyaethmom@gmail.com
very inspiring, dear sister-friend. i love you.
You are an inspiration! I just love you and your spirit. I miss running with you & chatting the miles away. Thanks for sharing your resolutions. I love how you made them so specific & explained them so you will remember what was going on in that noggin'when you set them.
Nice resolutions...I resolve to make those cool things we talked about...don't tell anyone and then we will be billionaires.
I also call that my family is the first to be invited to your home. Oh yeah!
My resolution is to see more of you. So far not good!
All I want to say is that you are amazing. I feel you are one of the few people who doesn't just talk of change but actually implements it. Or as Tina Turner would say, "Girl, don't you just talk the talk, unless you can walk the walk". She might not really have been the one to say it, but I can see her doing it and struttin her stuff.
Love Amy
Well those were just beautiful and I mean it and I would love to come over for dinner with all 9 of us (that means Jordan too who can eat quite a bit I tell ya)and see what you make of that - HA! I'm proud of you lil sis in law....you are someone that has shown me that people can and do change...I don't mean that in a bad way that you were in anyway a bad person but you have shown me like my Dad did that he continuously was willing to make changes for the better. I heard this quote the other day and it is now my new mantra....."without a change in what we are doing, we cannot change in what we are becoming"...thanks Priscilla for being the embodiment of this saying and such a good example...especially for being able to eat raw vegetables all day long and not have severe gas...that is very inspiring to me, colitis gut of the world...Love ya...one day next year I will post again to your blog....
